This advisor provides academic advising to those who are considering and/or pursuing studies in education. These advisees include students seeking admission to Indiana University; current University Division (UD) students interested in pursuing a teaching license; and current UD students considering education as a field more broadly, such as the pursuit of an academic minor in educational policy, counseling, or educational studies. This advisor provides information to inform students' career selection, as well as information regarding all facets of academic programs and policies within the University Division and the School of Education. Additionally, the advisor will work with the School of Education Director of Undergraduate Recruitment regarding recruitment and retention efforts for University Division students interested in majoring in education. The advisor's goal is to help students make an appropriate career choice for themselves and plan their timely academic progress. To that end, this advisor regularly participates in appropriate UD and School of Education meetings and collaborates with other professionals in both units to remain current with respect to policies and procedures. The advisor will update and clarify documents for student use (eg, timeline, planning sheets, informational letters, calendar). While this advisor will report to the Office of Teacher Education (OTE) Assistant Dean for Teacher Education and will attend all OTE Advising meetings and follow OTE protocols, she/he will be physically located in University Division advising offices and, as such, will also adhere to relevant UD policies and procedures for conduct, dress, etc. REQUIRED: Master's degree in education-related field and three years of experience working in a student-focused environment. Basic database proficiency required and willingness to learn IU student information system procedures. Excellent communication and listening skills. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations and stakeholders. Ability to maintain student confidentiality. Ability to represent the School of Education and University Division professionally. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a higher education environment and/or a background in K-12 education; basic knowledge of teacher education, academic programs and career guidance. Working Conditions / Physical Demands Salary Range $31,241 - $41,000 Salary Plan PAE Salary Grade 3SA FLSA Exempt Work Location This position will be housed in Maxwell Hall, but will routinely need to attend meetings in the School of Education building.
