Director, First Nations Educational and Cultural Center - (Bloomington) in Bloomington, Indiana For Sale
The Director's responsibility is to advance the University's strategic plan and commitment to Native American/Indigenous student success by managing the operations, programming, projects, events, and the staff of the FNECC. In cooperation with university partners, the center contributes to the educational, cultural, and psycho-social development of students in the context of racial and ethnic social justice. Oversees all phases of the FNECC operations including facility management. The director is responsible for the centers strategic planning; development and implementation of programs, events, and initiatives; budget, accounts, contracts and grant writing; and, community outreach. Additionally, the director assesses and reports on the center's contribution to the university's strategic plan. The director is responsible for managing center employees. The director ensures compliance with university policy, federal and state regulations, and serves as a liaison for students, faculty, staff, alumni, community, and the center's services. REQUIRED: Master's degree, three years of experience in departmental management and facility operations, and two years of supervisory experience in a major department or campus life function. Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University. Cultural competency, knowledge of student development theories, Native American/Indigenous cultural history, and current events as well as strong and demonstrable ties to contemporary Native American/Indigenous communities and national level Native American/Indigenous social, cultural or educational initiatives. Exceptionally strong interpersonal and communication skills with sound judgment and decision making skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build rapport with internal and external constituencies such as management, faculty and staff, agencies, community, and school representatives. Excellent planning and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to function well in a diverse work and service environment interfacing with diverse students. Demonstrated ability to solve a variety of problems, whether academic, project management, performance, financial, or other related issues. Demonstrated budgeting, financial management, and program assessment skills. Practical application and experience with databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a higher education service environment among faculty, staff, and students with diverse backgrounds and experience with developing collaborative academic programs and working with issues that represent or affect the Native American/Indigenous student experience and culture. Working Conditions / Physical Demands Availability for travel within and across university campuses as well as within Indiana and across the states. Travel outside the United States is possible.
