The Academic Advisor for Informatics Majors engages in academic advising for potential and current undergraduate Informatics students. Works closely with Undergraduate Program Director. Leads academic advising initiatives. Incorporates technology and university systems in advising practices. Helps students to identify and meet academic, personal and professional goals; analyze their success in meeting goals; and advises accordingly. Assists students with long-term academic and professional planning; interpreting policies and procedures; determining degree requirements and course sequencing; recommending academic and professional development resources; and focusing on individual student success strategies. Resolves problems. Completes graduation audits. Demonstrates an understanding of university and school policies/procedures, and campus student support resources. Refers students when appropriate. Maintains student records. Documents and tracks student academic progress. Maintains confidentiality. Works closely with staff in all areas of Student Services. Develops, implements, and lead programs and processes to positively impact student success, integrates academic and career planning, improves efficiency and effectiveness of advising, and enhance recruitment/retention efforts events. Plans, executes and support events, such as new student orientation, transfer student orientation, welcome week activities, targeted student programs, etc. REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree and two years of experience as an academic advisor, counselor, or related field. Knowledge of purpose and structure of academic degree requirements. Comprehensive understanding of system-wide student and academic services/units and their interrelationships. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Excellent communication and organization skills. Commitment to a collaborative team environment. Ability to maintain accurate records and attention to detail required. Experience developing, implementing and assessing learning outcomes, student programming, and retention and outreach efforts. Leadership skills. Preferred Qualifications Master's in a related field. Working knowledge of IU system-wide student service and academic delivery systems, including but not limited to University policies and procedures, SIS, IUIE, and Microsoft Office preferred.
